We found love in a hopeless place

It's been 5 years since this whole nightmare began, and both sides had sustained incredible casualties. The whole of Europe was fairly decimated, but England was definitely the worst. Perhaps the worst of it all was the fact that Merlin didn't know if Arthur was dead or alive. Yes, he thought about him often. How stupid they'd both been. Merlin was willing to fight for what he believed in, but it hadn't been about him - it should have been about them, about working it out together. It should never have come to this.

He still wears the engagement ring on his finger. He's almost lost it once or twice, but it's still there - and he makes sure to take care of it and clean it, repair it. But that's not what this meeting it about; he's been selected to represent the magical community in the negotiations. All they wanted was their freedom back. Magic wasn't inherently evil; it was people that used it for nefarious purposes, people that mistreated it. They were willing to help put those people in jail. If only the non-magic users would understand.

They're meeting on what used to be Parliament, reduced to rubble, now. Merlin's fiddling with his hands, twisting the ring nervously. They've set up wards already; there are a few other magical delegates and guards there, but Merlin is to do the central talking. Still, there's only so much they can guard against, and if the non-magic users decide to attack…well, the magic users weren't going to be too keen on reopening negotiations after that.

"Me too." Merlin whispers. "Now sleep, Arthur. Rest. I'll be here shen you wake up."

"Okay." Arthur relaxes his hold around Merlin and falls asleep within a few minutes.

Merlin isn't far behind, falling asleep with a relieved smile.

Arthur wakes up in the early hours of the morning, needing a moment to remember why he isn't in his tent. He can't help but smiles, running a hand over Merlin's arm.

Merlin mumbles incoherenty, squeezing Arthur closer when he shifts, still fast asleep.

"Merlin." Arthur mutters sleepily, nudging him.

"Mm...nnh," Merlin mutters, rubbing his cheek against Arthur's hair.

"Still not a morning person, huh?" Arthur chuckles.

"No..." Merlin groans, refusing to wake up.

[royalpratness]

"If you want to sleep, there'll be no morning sex."

[ayoungboy]

"Mm, want to bet?" Merlin chuckles.

[royalpratness]

"Sure. Because I'll get up and return to the camp if you don't wake up." Arthur grins.

"I don't have to let you leave."

[royalpratness]

"No, you don't" Arthur rolls onto his back.

Merlin grins, rolling on top of him to capture his lips.

"Ah, so you're awake now?" Arthur wraps his arms around Merlin, kissing him back.

"Maybe." Merlin allows, letting his hands roam down Arthur's sides.

"That's not good enough." Arthur tilts his head, looking up at him.

"No?" Merlin smirks, leaning in to kiss the mark he left on Arthur's neck last night.

[royalpratness]

"Okay, maybe it is." Arthur sighs happily, closing his eyes.

Merlin slowly works his way down Arthur's body, kissing lightly, teasing the skin. "Mm..."

Arthur watches him, bringing his hands up to Merlin's shoulders.

The warlock finally comes to rest at Arthur's hips, kissing and nibbling teasingly near to his dick. "Hm..."

Arthur arches his hips up invitingly, stretching beneath Merlin.

"Did you miss my mouth, sweetheart?" Merlin purrs, smirking a little.
