Spellbound

This week has been fucking exhausting. He'd been consuling all week and dealing with a threat over in Norway. Somebody trying to brew mind control potions, again. Why couldn't everybody just get along and stop fussing? He's finally back home, in England, heading up the wizarding council while they go over worldwide news, and he gets an invite - no, it isn't that. It's more of a demand, from King Pendragon.

He's a bit tired, really, and didn't feel like dealing with it. "Not now, thank you. Politely decline, for me?" He told the runner. "Send him some magical candy."

He just wanted to go home and finish his book, thank you. He didn't ask for these powers, but if he took a holiday the world would flip out. People held him in high regard for some reason - he wasn't that wise, or old. He was just a young man trying to do right. Yet somehow the King was demanding his presence.

"Florida, Spain. Anywhere." Merlin smiles, toying with his napkin.

"Australia? Or are you afraid of spiders?" Arthur teases.

[ayoungboy]

Merlin laughs, eyes crinkling happily. "I could try surfing, aye."

[royalpratness]

"I don't think I'd be very good at surfing but I've always wanted to pet a koala."

[ayoungboy]

"Koala's are horrible." Merlin blinks, smirking a little. "D'you know, they rape their mates?"

[royalpratness]

Arthur pulls a face, shaking his head. "Really? But they look so cute and fluffy."

[ayoungboy]

"Rapists." Merlin says seriously. "Want to pet one now?"

[royalpratness]

"No. What about kangaroos? Are they rapists too?" Arthur hopes not.

[ayoungboy]

"Actually, yes they are." Merlin laughs, but he's serious.

[royalpratness]

"Seriously?" Arthur looks seriously disturbed. "Wombats?"

[ayoungboy]

"Arthur, yes, they do." Merlin says, side-eyeing him. "You're literally listing a bunch of animals that rape their mates. Cats don't rape each other."

[royalpratness]

"But I don't need to go to Australia to see cats!" Arthur complains. "You've ruined all Australian animals for me now."

[ayoungboy]

"Why do you need to go to Australia?" Merlin laughs, grinning at him. "Why can't you just stay on the Australian beach? You have to go into the Outback? Aye, I'm not the rapist, they are!"

[royalpratness]

"There are sharks on the beaches. If they aren't rapists, they sure as hell eat people. No thank you." Arthur kicks Merlin under the table again for having spoiled his Australia fantasy.

[ayoungboy]

"Then what the hell!" Merlin laughs, shaking his head. "You know, I don't know if sharks are rapists."

"Ow!" Merlin snorts, letting his eyes flash gold. A wave of magic created a gust of wind and blew Arthur's napkin right into his face in retaliation. "Fine. How about we go north. Hot chocolate and pretty snow."

"Hey!" Arthur removes the napkin from where it has plastered itself on his face. "Okay, up north. Norway? Iceland?"

Merlin giggles and nods. "Sounds fine to me."

[royalpratness]

"Okay then. At least we won't have to worry about sunburn." Arthur grins, folding the napkin just as the waiter brings their food.

Merlin almost groans at the smell. It looks bloody delicious and he hasn't eaten in a day or two. Too busy.

[royalpratness]

Arthur smiles, pleased that Merlin seems to be happy about his meal. The waiter disappears again and they eat in silence for a while.

"Mm, thank you." Merlin sighs happily, smiling at Arthur. That's about when the click of a camera goes off behind them.

[royalpratness]

Arthur has been conditioned to recognise that sound anywhere. "Fuck! He curses under his breath, not turning around. "Merlin." He leans over the table. "I think I've been spottet by some papparazi." Or maybe they were lucky and it was just a tourist who could be bribed.

"Hm?" Merlin's got a mouthful of pizza. He glances back curiously. There are two teenage girls whispering and giggling, phone's out. With their luck, it's probably already on the internet. "...more like fans." He says, after he swallows.

[royalpratness]

"Really? As long as it's not the press..." Slowly, he turns around, giving those girls a strained smile.

The giggle and snap another picture. "...pretty sure they're not going to keep those pictures to themselves, Arthur."
