Spellbound

This week has been fucking exhausting. He'd been consuling all week and dealing with a threat over in Norway. Somebody trying to brew mind control potions, again. Why couldn't everybody just get along and stop fussing? He's finally back home, in England, heading up the wizarding council while they go over worldwide news, and he gets an invite - no, it isn't that. It's more of a demand, from King Pendragon.

He's a bit tired, really, and didn't feel like dealing with it. "Not now, thank you. Politely decline, for me?" He told the runner. "Send him some magical candy."

He just wanted to go home and finish his book, thank you. He didn't ask for these powers, but if he took a holiday the world would flip out. People held him in high regard for some reason - he wasn't that wise, or old. He was just a young man trying to do right. Yet somehow the King was demanding his presence.

Merlin snorts and offers Arthur his hand. "Don't let go until we're completely materialized. And I'll let you know when that is." It took a little longer than one would think, and he didn't want Arthur letting go too soon and getting lost.

Arthur checks that he has his phone and wallet on him before taking Merlin's hand, squeezing. "Got it." He can't say that he's not nervous before his first teleportation.

Merlin threads their fingers tightly, and then they're off. Even Arthur can probably feel the magic - Merlin's magic - buzzing around him, lifting them through was looks like a swirl of colors.

Arthur keeps his eyes shut tightly, holding tightly onto Merlin's hand, feeling terrified. They should have taken the plane.

"Shh," Merlin whispers softly, as the world materializes around them. It takes a minute, since Merlin wanted to ease them into the landing, and he keeps his grip firm on Arthur.

Arthur makes a strangled noise, trying desperate to calm his breathing. "Did we die?"

[ayoungboy]

"No, we didn't die." Merlin laughs quietly, turning and pulling Arthur into a firm hug as the materialize completely. "Shh, hey. You're fine. I know it can be overwhelming sometimes..."

While Arthur is surprised to suddenly find himself in a hug, it's very welcome. "Overwhelming." He chuckles, sounding shaky. "Yes, you could say that." He wraps his arms around Merlin's waist, holding on.

"I'll keep you safe." Merlin promises quietly, letting Arthur hold on as tightly as he needed. Some people couldn't handle the raw power of nature like that. "That's all I ever do, Arthur. It's alright."

[royalpratness]

"Thanks." Slowly, Arthur disentangles himself from Merlin, giving him a grateful smile. "Where are we?" Merlin hadn't said which country he had decided on.

Merlin nods respectively at the smile and keeps his distance. "Rome. I could go for pizza?"

Arthur puts on his sunglasses and nods. "Pizza sounds good." It's only know that he notices the change in temperature - it's much warmer here than it was in England.

Merlin nods and glances around before leading Arthur out of the alleyway. Wait... "Bollocks. I don't have any money."

[royalpratness]

Arthur rolls his eyes. "That's why I'm here. It's my treat, as an apology for last week."

[ayoungboy]

Merlin sighs gently, smiling a little at Arthur. "It's alright. I just...I hope you don't view me, and the magic community, that way."

[royalpratness]

"No, I don't, I promise. It was a rash and stupid decision not to talk to you first." Arthur pulls an apologetic face, looking around at the small shops and vespas driving in the streets.

"Well, that, and the touring bit." Merlin muttered, looking around for a pizza joint. "Seriously. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or punch you. I went for the option that wouldn't land me in prison."

[royalpratness]

"Sorry." Arthur winces. "I doubt that any of my guards would have been able to retain you." He nudges Merlin's arm, pointing at a restaurant right next to a river.

[ayoungboy]

"I might have let them. That's why I came the first day; so I wouldn't have to hurt any of your troops." Merlin smiles wryly, heading for the riverside restaurant.

[royalpratness]

"I wouldn't really have sent my troops after you." Arthur chuckles, crossing the street.

[ayoungboy]

"I don't know, you seemed pretty angry."

[royalpratness]

"I was. I'm not used to people disobeying my direct orders." He grins, holding the door open for Merlin as they enter the restaurant.

[ayoungboy]

"You must remember, I'm not under your orders." Merlin teases, just a little, slowly warming back up as he nods and walks into the cool store.

[royalpratness]

"I know. Won't happen again." At least he'll try his very best. He waiter, who luckily doesn't seem to recognise Arthur, welcomes them and leads them to a table with a few over the river.

Merlin nods absently, looking out over the river as they sit down. "Never get a chance to enjoy stuff like this." Not with the places he goes.
