The circus comes into town in the late afternoon. It's a quiet caravan, but the whispers start immediately. It's not a regular circus. This one - this is the Camelot circus. One of the most esteemed traveling acts in the country, and not for the faint of heart. This one has a flaming sword eater and a terrifying magician.

A few brave people try to peek at the preparations, but once the big tent is up, all that can really be seen are food stands being set up, and a few podiums for acts unknown. Everything else is hidden from view. You want to see? Come buy a ticket.

"You are quite naive, Merlin." He squeezes Merlin's hand gently. "The only reason an unmarried man like me would take a child out of an orphanage, is to put him or her to work on my estate. People don't adopt other people's children. It's not done."

"Clearly, you don't need another farmhand." Merlin points out. "Anyone can see that."

"No, I really don't." Arthur sighs. "Some things are just not meant to be."

Merlin frowns, not liking that saddened tone to Arthur's voice.

"Sorry." Arthur clears his throat. "I didn't mean to get all gloomy."

"It's okay," Merlin soothes, nuzzling his face into Arthur's neck.

"I'm glad you're here, you know." Arthur squeezes Merlin's waist.

[ayoungboy]

"Yeah?" Merlin smiles.

[royalpratness]

"Yes. It's much less lonely with you here." Arthur closes his eyes, enjoying the comfortable warmth radiating from the fireplace.

Merlin's smiles stretches wider across his face. "Thank you."

Arthur turns his head, kissing Merlin gently.

Merlin kisses him back happily, leaning in closer.

"I really like this part too about you being here." He grins.

Merlin laughs and pecks Arthur's cheek. "Me too."

((nah, Germany to UK is just one hour time difference. 4am was just the cheapest flight I could find XD))

"Glad to hear that." Arthur leans back against the couch again. "Do you like reading?"

[ooc: Ahh, I see. Maybe something went awry? My computer broke for no reason yesterday.]

"When I can. I don't have much money to spend on books, though."

((she isn't replying to texts either ~~ buuut I've got back-up options!... at least I hope so xD))

"Have you seen my library yet?" Arthur smiles, pleased to hear that Merlin does indeed like reading.

"...you have a library?" Merlin's eyes widen.

"I do indeed. I'm surprised Alice hasn't shown you yet."

"Exactly how rich are you?" Merlin teases.

[royalpratness]

"I'm very rich, Merlin." Arthur informs him, grinning. "Come, I'll show you the library."

Merlin laughs, sliding up, off the couch to follow Arthur.

Arthur leads him back downstairs, into the west wing of the house. He opens a large door, leading into a dimly lit room with rows and rows of bookshelves.

"Wow," Merlin breathes, eyes widening even farther.

"It's brilliant, isn't it?" Arthur smiles, proudly.
